How to Overcome Failures

 

 

Do you always feel tired, low in energy, and lacking in self-confidence?

 

Failures in life usher these feelings.  It is as if you are hurled to the bottomless pit of defeat at great speed! Now, to thwart the fall, try this:

 

Look around you. What do you see? Do you see disappointments or challenges?  

 

When you look at life, literally, all you see is just the surface. You view it in a very superficial way. You may insist that what you see is real. The evidence is right before your very eyes. Do you need to argue more? In your mind, there is no doubt that everything you see is real.

 

But the important question is this: How do you respond to things you see in life?  

 

Are you in the driver’s seat, always in control?  Do you submit to life’s whims and accept defeat by declaring, “It’s kaput. That’s it. It’s finished?”

 

If you allow it, failure leading to feeling of defeat can overwhelm you and gain total control over you.  Defeat keeps your aspirations at bay and warrants total submission. Defeat needs zero resistance to carry out its evil schemes. You can submit and surrender, or take a course of action.

 

You can fight back and declare: “Why should I surrender? I’m not going to sit here, do nothing, and accept defeat!” This is the way to treat defeat or failure.

 

You can address defeat as if it is a person. You can contradict defeat by firing off a series of questions.

 

“What makes you think you have the right to barge in like this?”

“You think you can con me? No way!”

“Get away from me and stay away from me.”

 

This way, you can psyche yourself to contradict it whenever defeatism begins to set in.  This line of questioning forces out negative feelings.  Counter it with positive thoughts of confidence, belief, faith, and hope.

 

Crowd your mind with thoughts of gratitude so that there will be no space left for failure and defeat to return. To do this, consciously seek lessons to be learned from disappointing circumstances. Look at all angles to convert disappointments into opportunities.  If you look closely enough, you are bound to come up with valuable lessons. Just be patient.

 

One author, Cheryl Richardson, developed a technique that she calls self-reflective reflex. She explains that whenever she encounter failures or disappointments, she asks herself the following questions:

 

  • Why have I drawn this experience to me at this time?

  • What is this experience trying to teach me?

  • How can I use this situation to make me a better person?

 

Condition yourself to view failure as an opportunity to improve and grow.  Failures make life challenging. If there are no failures, there will be limited progress.

 

This is not intended to glorify failure as a trigger to success. The point is to use failures and disappointments to your advantage. If you let disappointments drag you down, you are a disappointment yourself.

 

Failure is a part of success. No one is immune from it. Being a person full of wisdom does not exempt you from this dilemma. The wisest and most successful person is not fail-proof.

 

Constantly, train yourself to look at failure as an opportunity, a chance to improve and a chance to grow.
