How to be Productive at Work
Smart workers have known long enough that productivity is not measured by how long you work on a given task or how many tasks you did accomplish but how well you did it. Clearly, it only proves that quality is the best measure of productivity. And you only achieve productivity if you keep your focus in the work you are doing.
Increased focus at work is developed through various techniques and strategies set up by the worker himself. It is also better if he knows how to set limits too, with his dealings with co-workers who just wants to have a little chit-chat during work time, and for family members who keeps on calling in the office and friends sending emails and forwarded messages. These are little nuisances at work, and they should be dealt with accordingly.
It can be a little annoying at first to stop and think about strategies on how to deal with distractions, but the fruits of your labor will be paid off in the end with:
• higher productivity level
• heightened job satisfaction
• a good balance between your life and work
Therefore, to develop more your concentration at work, here are some ways forward:
1. In time management, you actually manage not the time but yourself. With lack of routine and patterns in your day-to-day work process, the tendency is to pile work your think that is not as important as your urgent tasks; but think again, you would soon be surprised at how much work has already piled up.
Most employees have the habit of wasting time without them knowing it. They waste time on too many personal calls, messages, emailing, surfing the net, disorganization, lack of planning, unclear goals, no setup routines and worst, procrastination.
To avoid this kind of disgruntled setup, develop routines and patterns you can work around. Set a schedule for reading your emails, answering your personal calls, browsing the internet, and so on and so forth. Try to focus more on one task at a time and avoid multitasking.
2. Every worker should have a developed system of doing things. Even how you arrange your supplies in the workspace should have a system. This will greatly save you time that can be used for other tasks. Imagine the time it takes away from you looking for things, standing up, and reaching for them, there is also technology to help you delegate some of the task like a voice mail. If you are in the middle of finishing an important report, you can divert your phone calls to your voice mail.
3. Meetings can be too long that it takes so much of your productive time. The tendency of people getting together to discuss things is to be sidetracked since all want to have their inputs laid on the table. To solve this dilemma, it is better if you can list down a well thought out agenda and send them in advance to the participants of the meeting. In that way, they can have initial thoughts to the agenda and would make the discussions right on track. Be sure that the meeting is really needed. It might be that a conference call or an email may be enough to discuss the matter rather than gather the team on a meeting. And when you decide to call for the meeting, stress that time is very precious and each one should respect each other’s schedule so they should come on time and end the meeting on time as well.
If you have done all this, there is no more reason for you to cram or worry about making things done because it will all just fall in the right places too smoothly. Knowing how to handle distractions and stress at work will eliminate all the clutter on your desk and in your mind. You will be able to think clearly and stay focus in your work or even in other things. Concentration is more than just a habit; it is mind-setting as well to help you increase your intensity that will result to higher productivity.
